Making sample quilts for designers

Woman holding up a colorful quilt in a cozy living room with exposed brick wall and large windows.

We all know that being a quilt pattern designer is not just creating the pattern. So much work and effort goes into the process, which can be overwhelming. Sometimes you need more than just one cover quilt to showcase your quilt pattern, but you also have the business & marketing side to take care of.

This is where my services come in to help you go through your pattern launch in the most efficient way.

Hand Quilting

in a nutshell

I am pleased to propose my services as a professional quilter for your quilt patterns to allow you to focus on bringing your new patterns to the market! As a quilt pattern designer and experienced pattern tester I understand the importance of your Cover Quilt. I will provide the attention to detail required in bringing your creation to life.
I have all the tools required to not only cut and sew but also to perform longarm services through collaboration with you on thread and quilting pantograph selection. Lastly, I will attach the binding of your choice by hand to frame your work of art!

I am here to work with you to get your quilts done just the way you would've made them yourself.

Sometimes you just need extra hands, so you can focus on what matters most!
With my help, you can get your work done without doing the work.

Testimonials

  • A woman with long wavy brown hair, wearing a rust-colored dress, holding a folded quilt with geometric patterns in orange, black, and beige, standing in front of a brick wall and a large window.

"Sandy is such a pleasure to work with! She understood my exact vision and made it come to life... quite quickly, I might add! Not only was her piecing precise and beautiful, but the long-arm quilting and hand binding was expertly executed and the end result is absolutely stunning. I will definitely be using her services again in the future!"

"I love having Sandy as a pattern tester and sample producer. She has tested many of my patterns and is always prompt with her feedback and photos. She always selects beautiful fabric pulls that show off the pattern in a new light and pantographs that highlight the design. what you need to know

Quilt Creation services

your pattern, your choice:

  • Whether you need help making the cover quilt or extra sample quilts, you are in 100% control. At this stage, you can order your own fabrics and have them delivered directly to me. Or you may send me the information of what you need, and I will purchase everything for you.

Average Turnaround time:

  • It depends on the complexity of the pattern, but the average turnaround time is about 10-14 business days once I receive all materials.

hourly rates:

  • I charge an hourly rate for making the quilt tops and preparing backing. My current rate is $30/hour and I bill in 10-minute intervals. I track my time and present it in the invoice and will share with you throughout the process at your request. The rate for piecing backing is $20 for non-pattern matching, and $40 for pattern matching for the backing.

Longarm quilting & Batting:

  • When you purchase my Quilt Creation Services, you are eligible for a flat rate $0.025/sq.inch regardless of the density of the quilting pantograph. I offer 80/20 cotton batting at $11/yard, but you may send your own batting if you prefer. Or I can always order any batting you prefer through retail/online store.

  • There is a minimum quilting fee of $50.00. Baby quilts, table runners, pillows etc., often are much smaller in square inches, but still take the same amount of time to be loaded and set up on the machine. If the amount calculated for your quilt size comes up less than $50, the minimum fee will be charged

binding and sending your quilts home:

  • This part is partially customizable. You may choose to finish the binding yourself, or let me finish it for you. The rate is $20 if you choose to have the binding attached only (not finished). The flat rate is $0.20/linear inch for me to finish either by machine or big stitch binding (my normal rate for big stitch binding is $0.36/linear inch).

  • All quilts are shipped through USPS Priority Mail unless requested otherwise. Invoices are sent at the conclusion of each project and are expected to be paid within one week, prior to shipment.
